Where a person is experiencing intense low mood or sadness, they are said to be suffering from a common mental health illness referred to as depression. In a number of cases, depression is also coupled with anxiety, which is characterised by chronic worry, apprehensiveness and unease. Each of these mental health illnesses both on their own and when experienced simultaneously have the ability to drastically affect a sufferer’s home life, relationships as well as their career. Depression and anxiety can largely reduce a person’s ability to live a happy life on a day-to-day basis.
Our client Paul, who presented to Blissiree Pty Ltd Spa suffering from severe depression coupled with anxiety, had been suffering for six years. Tired of being overwhelmed by dark and intrusive thoughts as well as reduced self-confidence in the workplace, Paul contacted Blissiree Pty Ltd and completed our Emotional Empowerment Program, in order to achieve his goals of feeling happy again, to live life and to shift the emotional baggage he was carrying.
We recently sat down with Paul to discuss his mental health progress and how by seeking professional help from Blissiree Pty Ltd, he has been able to achieve his goals, manage difficulties as they arise and begin leading a much happier life.
What was the biggest trigger of your mental health issues (anxiety, depression, anger or something else)?
Severe depression and anxiety. I was destabilised with dark, intrusive thoughts and self-doubt regarding my ability to perform at work.
Which area of your life was most affected by mental health? What did it stop you from doing or achieving?
My ability to feel happy, as I was unable to shift the emotional baggage. My fear of failure and not being good enough, alongside my lack of self-confidence and self-esteem were barriers for me in terms of (i) being able to feel peaceful and calm, as well as (ii) achieving my goals in life.
My depression and anxiety were affecting my working relationships and my ability to complete work tasks competently.
Can you describe the feelings and thoughts you experienced?
I wasn’t coping well with life, I had a low degree of resilience and my perceptions were unhealthy.
What was the tipping point that made you speak up about how you were feeling and seek professional help?
I had been taking antidepressants for six years, but they did not have the effect I was after.
Why did you decide to try and give BWS a shot?
I engaged in Blissiree Pty Ltd’s Emotional Empowerment Program to try and achieve my goals of feeling happy again, to live life and to shift the emotional baggage I was carrying.
How did you feel after your first BWS session?
I experienced a reduction in my levels of depression, stress and anxiety, and I felt unable to attach to problems and events that bothered me prior to my first BWS session.
How many sessions did it take before you felt the real impact?
It took reaching my fourth session on the program to start seeing a significant difference. At this point, I started feeling really well and felt that particular events and negative ways of thinking were not affecting me as much as they would have normally. I experienced a quieter mind and less attachment to my worries. From this point onwards, I went from strength to strength.
What specific tools, lessons or techniques has the program taught you that have helped control your mental health and emotional wellbeing?
I loved the Emotional Empowerment Program. I have been able to put things in place to implement self-care, in order to assist me with ongoing environmental stressors. In the latter half of the program, I experienced traumatic news. Although this had an impact on my wellbeing, I was able to meet the experience on a different level and have what I learnt throughout the program help support me through the emotions.
I am now more emotionally aware, confident and calm. My mind is lacking the chatter that occupied it in the past. I now have a good attitude, my moods have improved, and I genuinely feel happier than not. I am now coping well with life and feel much more resilient. My perceptions are now healthy and I have been able to achieve the goals I set out for myself when I began the program.
Unfortunately, Paul’s experience is not uncommon. Depression and anxiety were drastically affecting Paul’s ability to feel happy and function competently at work. However, by recognising he was struggling and needed to reach out for professional help, he was able to achieve a much calmer and happier life, free from depression and anxiety.
